Moorland Community Speed Watch |
Sadly, not all drivers drive responsibly on Dartmoor, causing many unnecessary accidents and animal deaths. To help combat this Cllr Manning with the support of Dartmoor Forest Parish Council has established a Moorland Community Speed Watch scheme in partnership with Devon and Cornwall Police. Under this scheme volunteers will be trained by the police to monitor traffic at selected locations. Speeding vehicles will be recorded and warning letters will be sent to the vehicle owner together with educational information. Persistent offenders will receive a further warning letter, and possibly a visit from their local neighbourhood policing team to deliver some words of advice. Speedwatch is not about punishment but education as it is only in this way this problem can be tackled. To volunteer, contact the Parish Clerk or Cllr Manning. |
